Mental Health Awareness Week : Empowering Tips to Navigate Anxiety

It's Mental Health Awareness week, and today we're diving deep into the topic of anxiety. Life can throw us some serious curveballs, but worry not! I've got your back with some practical tips to help you nurture your inner peace and conquer anxiety like the confident boss you are.

But first, if you suffer from anxiety, you're not alone my friend. We all experience some form of anxiety at some point in our lives.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting over 40 million adults, or 18.1% of the population, each year. And it's not just in the US - anxiety is a global issue. In Europe, it affects approximately 14% of the adult population. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 13 people worldwide suffer from anxiety. That's a lot of people!

And did you know that there's also a gender inequality: Women are more likely to experience anxiety disorders than men, with a higher prevalence rate of around 17% compared to 11% in men (in Europe).

Anxiety is widespread and common and our fast-paced world is for sure a factor. But anxiety isn't a new phenomenon - it has been around for centuries. In fact, the ancient Greeks and Romans wrote about anxiety and its effects. The term "anxiety" itself comes from the Latin word "anxietas," which means "to choke" or "to cause distress." I mean wow, that's some serious figurative speech.

So, what can we do about anxiety? Well, there are many ways to manage it, but here are four keys that can help you deal with it:

1. Embrace the Calming Power of Mindfulness:

Picture this: you, sitting like a zen master, effortlessly embracing the present moment. Mindfulness is the ultimate tool to bring you back to the here and now, where all the magic happens. Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath, soak up your surroundings, and let go of those pesky thoughts that love to steal the show. It's like hitting the reset button for your mind, leaving you feeling centered and ready to take on the world.

2. Befriend Your Amygdala:

Let's talk brain science, baby! Meet your new BFF, the amygdala. This tiny powerhouse is responsible for the "fight or flight" response that can send anxiety levels soaring. But guess what? You hold the power to tame this wild beast. Engage in activities like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or meditation to activate your body's relaxation response. It's like sending your amygdala on a much-needed vacation to a tropical island. Cue the palm trees and chill vibes!

3. Listen to Anxiety's Message:

Anxiety may not be the most welcome guest, but let's give it some credit – it's trying to tell you something important. Instead of slamming the door in its face, take a moment to listen. What's this anxiety messenger trying to convey? Is it nudging you to set healthy boundaries, prioritize self-care, or reach out for support? By paying attention and addressing its underlying message, you can turn anxiety into a catalyst for personal growth and positive change.

4. Cultivate a Self-Care Ritual:

You deserve some serious TLC, darling. Self-care isn't just a trendy hashtag; it's a superpower for your mental well-being. Create a self-care routine that's tailor-made for you. It could be indulging in soothing baths, pouring your heart out in a journaling session, getting lost in a creative outlet, or cozying up with a good book and a cup of your favorite brew. Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish; it's a bold declaration that your mental health matters.

Let's take a moment to celebrate the courage it takes to face anxiety head-on. You are an absolute rockstar, and your resilience shines bright. Remember, progress is a journey, so be kind and patient with yourself along the way.

If you're feeling overwhelmed and need some extra support, don't hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional or a trusted coach. They're the superheroes of the mind, armed with the knowledge and tools to guide you through challenging times.

As we wrap up this newsletter, I wanna leave you with a powerful quote:

"Courage doesn't mean you won't get scared. Courage means you don't let fear hold you back." – Bethany Hamilton

Embrace your courage, my fabulous friends. Together, let's create a world where anxiety doesn't stand a chance. Keep shining, keep growing, and keep nurturing your inner peace.

With love and support,

Suzanne

Hi Reader, I hope this email finds you well. It’s been a few months since my last newsletter, and I’ve got to be honest with you—it wasn’t because I didn’t have things to share. The longer I waited, the more I felt a growing sense of shame and embarrassment for not reaching out sooner. And as that feeling grew, so did the hesitancy to send this very email. But then, I had a moment of clarity. I recognized this as a pattern—one I’d immediately address if it were happening to one of my clients....

A few weeks ago, I found myself at an audition for a yoga teaching position in a studio. Despite having taught thousands of hours of yoga and knowing my capabilities as a teacher, the jitters were still present: my heart was beating faster, butterflies danced in my tummy, and my palms turned clammy. Sound familiar? But instead of letting them overwhelm me, I leaned into them. Why? Because I’ve learned that stress in these situations can actually be helpful. It’s a boost, sharpening focus and...

*PRE.S.:I've got something for you, and you only, dear email reader, at the bottom of this email. I'm opening up spots for you for my Coaching package. Scroll down for deets.* As February rolls in (yay to longer days!), I've been thinking about something warmer, something deeper than the usual Valentine’s Day buzz. How about we talk about something that nourishes us daily: our food? But I'm not just talking about food as nourishment; I'm talking about making healthier choices that reflect our...
