Happy new year dear Reader!
As we welcome 2024, I wanna talk about the pervasive ‘new year, new you’ narrative. This message splashed across our feeds and inboxes urges us to believe that a drastic transformation is both necessary and achievable overnight. But here’s a gentle reminder: you are already wonderful as you are. Maybe 2024 isn't about reinventing yourself; it can simply be about nurturing and growing the incredible person you already are. I feel like that's a relief, don't you?!
In the spirit of gentleness and self-care, let's talk about setting intentions rather than resolutions. Resolutions often stem from a place of self-criticism, focusing on what we think we need to fix. This approach can lead to a harsh cycle of unrealistic expectations and disappointment. How many times have we set strict resolutions, only to feel guilt or shame when we stray from them? The truth is, that resolutions can be a setup for an all-or-nothing mindset, leading to disappointment and abandonment of our goals.
Instead, intentions offer a more compassionate and flexible path. Intentions are gentle; they are not tied to a specific outcome but encourage us to bring mindfulness and effort to our actions. For example, instead of a resolution like losing weight through a strict diet, set an intention to nourish your body with loving care and wholesome foods. This way, enjoying a slice of cake becomes a part of your balanced life, not a failure or a setback. As Sharon Salzberg eloquently puts it, “Just start over.” Each moment offers a brand new opportunity to realign with our intentions, free from self-judgment.
As we set our intentions, let’s also open our hearts to the unexpected twists and turns of life. Being too rigid in our plans can make us miss out on life’s serendipities. Remember, the most intriguing stories often come from unplanned chapters. Joseph Campbell wisely advised, “We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” Let’s approach this year with openness, ready for new adventures and experiences.
As we embark on this new year, let’s do so with kindness, intention, and a spirit of curiosity. You are already enough, and 2024 is simply an opportunity to continue your amazing journey.
Here’s to a year filled with health, happiness, and beautiful surprises. Happy New Year!
With love and light,
Suzanne 🌸🍃💖

Hi Reader, I hope this email finds you well. It’s been a few months since my last newsletter, and I’ve got to be honest with you—it wasn’t because I didn’t have things to share. The longer I waited, the more I felt a growing sense of shame and embarrassment for not reaching out sooner. And as that feeling grew, so did the hesitancy to send this very email. But then, I had a moment of clarity. I recognized this as a pattern—one I’d immediately address if it were happening to one of my clients....
A few weeks ago, I found myself at an audition for a yoga teaching position in a studio. Despite having taught thousands of hours of yoga and knowing my capabilities as a teacher, the jitters were still present: my heart was beating faster, butterflies danced in my tummy, and my palms turned clammy. Sound familiar? But instead of letting them overwhelm me, I leaned into them. Why? Because I’ve learned that stress in these situations can actually be helpful. It’s a boost, sharpening focus and...
